Environmental Book Discussion

What would really happen if we simply stop shopping? Is there a way to reduce our consumption to earth-saving levels without triggering an economic collapse? J.B. MacKinnon, (author of The 100-mile Diet among other books), tries to answer these questions and others with this well-researched and very readable book, short-listed for the 2021 Governor General’s Award for Non-fiction.

MacKinnon travelled around the world to examine different “norms” of consuming, from America's big-box stores, to the hunter-gatherer cultures of Namibia, to communities in Ecuador that consume at an exactly sustainable rate.
